Walk and Talk Therapy
Walk and Talk Therapy offers an alternative way of accessing counselling by meeting outdoors in a natural setting and walking together at a gentle pace. Sessions usually take place in a peaceful woodland location just outside Lewes as well as other agreed locations, and are always adapted to suit your needs, comfort, and pace.
Many people find that walking side by side rather than sitting face-to-face can feel less intense and more natural. The combination of movement and conversation can help thoughts and feelings flow more freely, particularly if you feel anxious, overwhelmed, or self-conscious in a traditional therapy setting.
Being outdoors can also be calming and grounding. The natural environment can support emotional regulation, reduce stress, and offer a sense of space and perspective, helping you feel more present and connected to yourself.
Walk and Talk Therapy is not about fitness or walking long distances. The pace is gentle and guided by you, with opportunities to pause or sit if needed. We’ll agree on a quiet route in advance to support confidentiality, and all the same ethical and professional standards apply as with indoor or online sessions.
If you’re unsure whether this way of working would suit you, we can talk it through together and decide what feels right.

Walk and Talk FAQs
What if the weather is bad?
We’ll check the forecast beforehand. If the weather isn’t suitable, we can move the session online or reschedule. Some people are happy to walk in the rain, but this is always your choice.
Do I need to be fit to take part?
No. Walk and Talk Therapy is not about fitness. We walk at a gentle pace and can pause or sit whenever needed. Sessions are adapted to suit you.
What should I wear?
Comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing are best. Layers are often helpful, and there are places along the route where we can stop if you’d like to pause.
Is it confidential?
Yes. I choose quiet, low-traffic routes and follow the BACP Ethical Framework to maintain privacy and professionalism at all times.
How long are the sessions?
Sessions last 50 minutes, the same as standard counselling appointments.
I’m a parent carer — is Walk and Talk Therapy suitable for me?
Many parent carers find Walk and Talk Therapy particularly supportive, as it offers time and space away from daily caring responsibilities. Being outdoors and moving gently can help reduce stress and make it easier to talk openly. We’ll always work at a pace that feels manageable for you.
Is Walk and Talk Therapy suitable for everyone?
It isn’t right for everyone, and that’s okay. We can talk together about whether this way of working feels like a good fit, and you’re always welcome to choose indoor or online sessions instead.
